COCK AND BUSH: Mmm, those shorts don't leave much to the imagination, eh, girls? This is the photo currently illustrating People's interview with George W as he turns 60, and shows it's not just North Korea packing a missile. Yes, sixty years old, President of the United States, and yet he still comes across like the bosses' kid, doesn't he? The main surprise in the interview is this bit: I think we have a problem on global warming. I think there is a debate about whether it's caused by mankind or whether it's caused naturally, but it's a worthy debate. It's a debate, actually, that I'm in the process of solving by advancing new technologies, burning coal cleanly in electric plants, or promoting hydrogen-powered automobiles, or advancing ethanol as an alternative to gasoline. There isn't, of course, any debate amongst anyone with half a clue over if global warming is caused by mankind or not, but it's interesting that Bush is trying to "solve the debate" rather than, as you might have hoped, solve the serious and pressing threat of the imminent collapse of the planet's ecosystem; and his half-arsed suggestion that a few car drivers switching to ethanol might sort everything out shows that his shift to accepting there's a problem might not be quite a heartfelt as all that.
